The potential combinations for a human to create force to bring about motion in a golf club in are massive. As humans we can move each joint in either one, two or three planes.
Most of you will be familiar with a Rubik’s Cube. A Rubik’s Cube can move not only in three planes but also in two directions within that plane. Think of your joints as either one, two or three directions of a Rubik’s Cube. That’s a whole lot of joints and a vast amount of combinations.
However moving the correct joint in the plane and correct direction in that plane leads to other joints “following the leader” so to speak.
Frustratingly, bringing about an optimal motion every time even when knowing how to do it is not a given. And so in addition to knowing “what to do” a golfer must learn “how to do”.
Learning a motion when there are so many variables has to be done in a way that breaks the individual motions down and then perform all of them in a sequence and then perform them at various speeds. Just like a dance learns a dance by breaking down each motion into pieces so should a golfer if they are to perform the motion correctly and repetitively.
Only when that is achieved can a golfer be truly able to say they can rely on that motion in any given circumstance.
