On The Range

Practice or training sessions should be broken down into two areas.

  • Training the mechanics for specific shots.

  • Practicing playing the game.

Each session should include both elements.

Golf requires various skill types and each skill needs to be worked on. However not all skill areas have the same input to your game as each other. For instance bunker play doesn’t have the same input to your score as approach shots and so its important to devote the correct amount of time incrementally to each area of your game so as not to “waste” training time.

  • Off the tee - 20%

  • Into the green - 40%

  • Around the Green - 25%

  • On The Green - 15%

Additionally you want to break each area down again into the various skills required for that part of the game

On the Green

  • Speed 40%

  • Direction 40%

  • Green reading 20%

INTO the Green

  • Wedges 30%

  • Mid-irons 30%

  • Long Irons 25%

  • Fairway metals 15%

Around the Green

  • Speed 40%

  • Direction 40%

  • Green reading 20%

OFF the TEE

  • Driver 85%

  • Next longest club 10%

  • Next longest club 5%

ON the COURSE

  • On course practice should include situational scenarios eg. Can’t miss left off the tee on a hole with a penalty area down the left side

  • Scrambling games in the On The Course Practice Portal should be played whenever playing a non-competitive game regardless of amount of holes playing.
